Job Purpose
To support and enable NWS projects and technical functions in the successful realisation of waste management and disposal solutions through the effective management of technical information and knowledge. The role forms part of the Design Authority & Technical Control function within the Technical Directorate and relates specifically to technical information and knowledge associated with product and system lifecycles and to the technical capability of functions within the Technical Directorate. The role interfaces with other Directorates and Functions and maintains close alignment with the corporate Information Governance and Knowledge Management Function. The role may also support engagement with external stakeholders including regulators, Non-Government Organisations, Waste Owners and professional and technical suppliers.
Responsibilities
- Supporting and enabling NWS projects to plan and execute management of technical information and knowledge over the product or system lifecycle, including Building Information Modelling (ISO19650) and other relevant standards.
- Developing and facilitating technical information and knowledge processes as part of a Systems Engineering approach (ISO15288) and Asset Management practise (ISO55000).
- Eliciting, defining, and integrating user needs and requirements, across the technical functions, for digitalisation of technical information and knowledge processes.
- Working with Configuration Management functions to ensure traceability between project and product configurations and versioned technical information and knowledge.
- Working with Data Management functions to ensure technical data is integrated and controlled to meet project information needs and requirements.
- Stewardship of Technical Knowledge Bases and assigned Document Libraries, in line with corporate information architecture requirements.
- Supporting Design Authorities and Technical Assurance functions in co-ordinating governance and assurance of technical information, including preparation for public release.
- Co-ordinating across Information Asset Owners and Information Asset Managers within Technical Directorate to discharge IAO responsibilities coherently and ensure adherence to corporate requirements.
- Support relevant leads in Environment, Health, Safety, Security and Quality Directorate to discharge corporate Information Governance and Knowledge Management functions within Technical Directorate.
- Support the development and execution of communications and stakeholder engagement plans for controlled dissemination of technical information and knowledge.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
- Good first degree in an appropriate subject or equivalent relevant experience.
- Significant experience of managing technical (scientific and engineering) information and knowledge.
- Knowledge of Information & Knowledge Management standards and relevant good practise in technical contexts such as scientific research, engineering, product development or asset management.
- Experience of developing, defining and facilitating Information & Knowledge Management processes in technical contexts.
- Professional registration with a relevant institution, or with qualifications and experience necessary to apply for registration.
- Experience in interdisciplinary and cross-functional contexts.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and organisation skills.
Desirable
- Knowledge of Systems Engineering and Systems Lifecycle Processes (ISO15288).
- Knowledge of Asset Management and asset information requirements (ISO55000).
- Knowledge of other relevant information standards and regulatory requirements including BIM (ISO19650), Nuclear Site License Conditions, Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) and Public Records Act.
- Experience of Microsoft 365 information architecture.
- Experience on major infrastructure or complex product development projects.
- Experience in nuclear / regulated and safety critical sectors.
